The Professional Hunting Grounds (hereinafter referred to as the Hunting Grounds) are operated and maintained by State Forest Enterprise. The Hunting Grounds are used for implementing special game population-growth measures and the development of hunting tourism.
The management of the Hunting Grounds and the use of game resources are conducted in accordance with the Law on Wildlife of the Republic of Lithuania, the Law on Hunting of the Republic of Lithuania, the Rules on Hunting in the Territory of the Republic of Lithuania, the Provisions for the Management and Use of Professional Hunting Grounds, other legislation and game species management plans.
The Hunting Grounds are managed and used for the purposes of implementing the following goals:
- the improvement and protection of the living conditions of game species;
- the restocking of game, according to the Hunting Ground suitability for such species to dwell and reproduce;
- the rational management of game populations;
- the protection of seedlings, forest stands and agricultural crops from the damage inflicted by wildlife in order to avoid more substantial harm to forests or agricultural crops, as well as the assessment of the effectiveness of deployed measures of damage prevention;
- the accumulation and promotion of experience, information and exhibits related to the model, complex management of forests and the hunting sector;
- fostering hunting traditions and the development of hunting tourism;
- economic efficiency.
The State Forest Enterprise supervises and organises hunting in 18 Professional Hunting Grounds, which cover more than 135,000 hectares.
